My research is deeply rooted in exploring how businesses can enhance their ability to transform and commercialize internal ideas and technologies. I am particularly interested in the concept of open innovation, where firms not only leverage their internal resources but also tap into external knowledge and technologies to drive innovation. By focusing on how businesses can develop the capabilities to navigate market dynamism and stay ahead of the competition, I aim to uncover strategies that enable companies to match their solutions with rapidly evolving technologies, ensuring they remain relevant in an increasingly competitive landscape. My research also explores the role of general-purpose technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, in facilitating this adaptability and innovation.
Another key area of my research is the intersection of IP management and innovation processes, particularly in terms of value creation and value capture. I investigate how companies can effectively innovate when a significant portion of relevant information lies outside their organization. This includes understanding how firms can collaborate with external partners while simultaneously safeguarding their commercialization goals. My work seeks to identify the mechanisms through which businesses can balance openness with protection, ensuring that they can both share and capture value in the innovation process.
Finally, I am passionate about exploring how organizations can address capability issues and foster organizational learning. In today’s fast-paced environment, the ability to continuously learn and adapt is crucial for long-term success. My research aims to provide insights into how companies can build and maintain these capabilities, allowing them to stay agile and responsive to changes in the market. Through this lens, I also examine how businesses can utilize IP strategically to support their innovation efforts, driving sustainable growth and competitive advantage.
